On the 22nd of October marks a significant milestone in The Gambia’s journey toward comprehensive prison and security sector reform

The Gambia Prison Service, in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), UNDP, and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), is hosting a Stakeholder Popularization Workshop on the Prison Bill from 22nd to 23rd October 2025 at Ocean Bay Hotel, Banjul.

This two-day engagement brings together government institutions, justice actors, oversight bodies, and civil society organizations to discuss the contents and implications of the proposed Prison Bill a vital step toward building a humane, rights-based, and transparent correctional system aligned with international standards.

As we collectively review and refine this important legislation, our shared goal remains clear: to strengthen accountability, protect the dignity of inmates, and ensure that our correctional institutions contribute to rehabilitation and national peacebuilding.
