As part of the security sector reforms and capacity-building initiatives, the Gambia’s prison management, in partnership with the Nigerian Correctional Service, conducted a comprehensive senior managerial training course for five selected prison officers. This program is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership within the prison system and ensure that officers are well-prepared to manage and lead effectively in their respective roles.
The training covered a wide range of topics essential for managerial and operational excellence, including strategic planning, crisis management, inmate rehabilitation, and modern correctional practices. These topics aim to equip officers with advanced skills needed to handle the unique challenges of leadership in the correctional sector. By enhancing their managerial competencies, the program supports the broader goal of professionalizing the prison service and aligning it with international standards.
At the conclusion of the training, each officer was recognized for their dedication, resilience, and outstanding performance throughout the course. In a ceremony attended by officials from both the Gambia and Nigeria, the officers were awarded various accolades as a testament to their hard work and commitment to service improvement. These awards also symbolize the strength of the partnership between the two nations, fostering a collaborative approach to addressing the challenges within correctional services.
